Traininng activities of the Doctoral Program in Health Sciences
Presentation and follow-up of theses under development (5 hours)
- Description: Every year, around June, a day of sessions dedicated to the development and progress of the theses developed in the program will be organized. The sessions will correspond to the presentation of the research studies carried out by the students of the program, from their design to the analysis of the results. They can be both face-to-face and virtual
- Character: Compulsory. All students must participate in this activity at least once during the first three years in the program
- Schedule: Annual (from academic year 2024-25)
- Participation: Students wishing to participate must submit the application form for participation, with the agreement of their supervisor(s), in the call for proposals published annually by the Academic Committee of the Doctoral Program. The presentation of the project must be attended by at least one of the supervisors and two members of the Academic Committee
- Attendance control: Attendance at the sessions will be registered, including the title of the session, the speaker and the date. This process will be supervised by a professor of the doctoral program
- Mobility actions: There are no associated mobility actions
Scientific communications at national and international Health Sciences events and
meetings (8 hours)
- Description: Attendance and participation in scientific events and meetings (congresses, conferences, seminars, lecture cycles…) at regional, national and / or international level, related to the line of research in which the doctoral student works
- Character: Compulsory. All students must participate in this activity at least once during their doctoral studies, presenting an oral communication and / or poster
- Schedule: The activity can be carried out in any year of the program
- Participation: Participation will depend on the funding obtained by the doctoral student in specific calls for proposals or on the funds from research projects in which the doctoral student or his/her supervisor(s) participate
- Attendance control: Certificate of attendance will be required, which will be added to the Record of Activities via the Virtual Secretary
- Mobility actions: Depending on the resources available, participation in international events will be encouraged.
Training action on research methodology (12 hours)
- Description: Training related to research methodology including basic competences (scientific methodology, ethics, types of studies, scientific articles and how to publish, high impact journals, important aspects of the doctoral thesis …)
- Character: Optional
- Schedule: This training activity can be carried out during any year of the program
- Participation: Students interested in participating must register for this activity within the deadlines set each year
- Attendance control: Participation in these activities will be accredited by the certificate of participation issued by the Academic Committee of the Doctoral Program. Students must upload the certificate of attendance to their Record of Activities via the Virtual Secretary
- Mobility actions: There are no associated mobility actions.
Mobility and research stays (112 hours)
- Description: Pre-doctoral training stays in universities or research centres of recognized prestige, outside the University of A Coruña, national or foreign, to carry out research tasks related to the doctoral thesis. It allows the realization of theses with “International Doctoral” certification, which require a stay of at least three months in a foreign research center (it is possible to make several stays that add up to this duration)
- Character: Optional
- Schedule: Stays can be carried out in any year of the program, although it is
recommended to start in the second or third year - Participation: For a thesis with “International Doctoral” certification, it is necessary
to obtain the approval of the Academic Committee of the Doctoral Program before
the stay, with the agreement both of the thesis supervisor and the institution
hosting the doctoral student. Participation in research stays depends on the funding
obtained by the doctoral student in specific calls or on the funds from the research
projects in which the doctoral student or his/her thesis supervisor participates - Attendance control: The host institution will issue an accreditation document at the
end of the stay, which must be uploaded to the Record of Activities via the Virtual
Secretary and submitted for thesis deposit and defence in the case of “International
Doctoral” certificate. The thesis supervisor(s) will be in charge of the supervision of
the stay - Mobility actions: The Academic Committee of the Doctoral Program will provide
information on possible calls for proposals in which doctoral students can participate
for the funding of research stays
